The intention of the NAM

"...a truly national meeting, held annually... with a programme covering all aspects of astronomical research. The aims would be: to provide an annual occasion to review the progress of astronomy; to provide a meeting place for a broad section of the UK astronomical community; to organise a 'job market' and, finally, to provide focus for the science media..."

- Prof. Ken Pounds (Astronomy Now, June 1993)
